Company History

InterDok Corporation was founded in 1964 by Bernard B. Baschkin (1927-2001). As an engineer by training, his vision was to provide a service that bridged the gap between supply and demand for available published literature produced from specialized conferences and symposia in the science and technology communities. At the time, societies were not aware of any substantial need from outside their membership for locating published proceedings and literature resulting from annual meetings. Many librarians and researchers who did not have the resources to search and identify newly released published proceedings appreciated this effort.

Directory of Published Proceedings

When the Directory of Published Proceedings, Series SEMT (Science, Engineering, Medicine and Technology) was introduced in 1965, it was received with high acclaim from the organizations producing their proceedings and the libraries who could now locate them. With the success of Series SEMT, InterDok moved forward with its successful bibliographic services when it introduced Series SSH, (Social Sciences and Humanities). In February 2003, InterDok introduced the electronic version of DoPP. With real-time access to more than 50,000 records, existing customers and new subscribers found the new DoPP easier to use and far more cost effective.  In 2010, DoPP was terminated and the new Directory of Published Papers was designed as a replacement database.

Acquisitions Service

Throughout the four decades InterDok had been providing libraries with directory services, acquisitions procurement had been another area of expertise. It was determined early on the demand for locating published proceedings included the need to confirm and procure the titles most librarians did not have the time to sort through. InterDok’s Acquisitions Service was developed with the knowledge that time was extremely limited when dealing with procurement. In 2007, InterDok sold this department to Curran Associates of Red Hook, NY.

MInd: The Meetings Index

In 1984, InterDok introduced MInd: The Meetings Index. When providing a service that located and identified published proceedings from specialized events, there was also a need to locate information on future conferences, congresses and symposia. In 2012, Mind was terminated in order to allow complete development of the new DoPP.

The Directory of Published Papers

In 2013, InterDok Media Services introduces the Directory of Published Papers (DoPP). This new database is designed to allow researchers to upload their papers and be able to search for and download posted files. The primary source of material to be available will be research papers authored by academics yet to present at a conference. It is intended by including their research in DoPP, authors will have the opportunity to provide the audience with new and interesting ideas to study. Anyone downloading a paper from DoPP will also have the opportunity to rate work viewed.
